The challenge: Properties account for about 40 to 50 percent of energy consumption worldwide. For several years, HOCHTIEF companies such as HOCHTIEF Construction and HOCHTIEF Facility Management have been contributing to a long-term reduction in this inordinate amount. Green building—or sustainable construction—has a long history at HOCHTIEF. Through innovative energy management and the promotion of renewable energies, we are helping to both cut greenhouse gas emissions and reduce our project operat­ ing costs. As a result of the Ideas Management project introduced in 2008, we have received numerous suggestions from our employees on how we can save energy. Many of these ideas have now been put into practice.
